Sebek honored as SHSU baseball MVP

Four Bearkat baseball players have been voted by their teammates for top honors after a successful 2008 season for Sam Houston State.
Todd Sebek, senior outfielder from Kerrville, was voted as Sam Houston State “Most Valuable Player.” Sebek earned third team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Magazine, All-Southland Conference recognition, and was named to the NCAA Regional all-tournament squad.
Sebek became only the second player in Sam Houston baseball history to total more than 100 hits in a season with 101 in 2008. He hit .357 with a team-leading 25 doubles, three triples, and five home runs. He started the season with a 21-game hitting streak and produced an 18-game hitting streak at season's end.
Seth Hammock, junior third baseman from Corpus Christi, was voted as Sam Houston “Most Valuable Hitter.” The transfer from Baylor led the Bearkats with a .380 average. Hammock totaled 78 hits in 205 at bats in his 52 games this season. He produced 17 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs. Hammock was a first team All-Southland Conference and SLC post-season All-Tournament
Dallas Gallant, freshman right hander from Trinity, was voted as Sam Houston “Most Valuable Pitcher.” Gallant led the team with a 9-4 record including a 7-1 mark during the Southland Conference regular season. He also was the winning pitcher in two of Sam Houston State's four victories in the Southland Conference post-season tournament. Gallant was an honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection and was voted to the 2008 SLC All-Tournament team.
Tyson Mire, senior outfielder from Round Rock, was named as the winner of the “Bearkat Spirit Award.”
Sam Houston State produced a 37-25 overall record this season, earning its second consecutive NCAA Division I regional tournament berth.
