FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Freshman Chanice Smith scored a season high 19 points to lead Sam Houston State as the Bearkats fell to Arkansas 106-78 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night.

Arkansas (7-5) had five players score in double figures. The Razorbacks were led by Lyndsay Harris with 21 points and Charity Ford with 19.

Bearkat senior Whitney Smith scored 14 points to up her career scoring total to 984 points in 96 games the past four years. Smith now stands 16 points away from becoming the 10th Sam Houston women's basketball players to score 1,000 or more points.

Senior guard Ray Alexander gave the Kats three players in double figures with 14 points. Brittany Brooks added nine points.

The loss was the fourth in a row for Sam Houston (3-7).

Sam Houston led once in the contest as Chanice Smith hit a three-point basket with 15:37 to play in the first half to put the Kats up 7-6.

Eight minutes later, the Bearkats were still keeping the game close, pulling to within six points, 29-23, on a basket off a rebound by Clarke Davis.

The Razorbacks closed the half with a 21-12 run to build a 50-35 margin at intermission. Arkansas outscored Sam Houston 56-43 in the second period.

The 106 points is the most given up this season by the Sam Houston women. Oral Roberts scored 101 points in the Bearkats' last home game Nov. 30.

The Arkansas game was the fifth in a series of seven road contests for the Bearkat women. Sam Houston travels next to face Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Monday, Jan. 4.

Sam Houston will open Southland Conference play on the road Saturday January 9 at Stephen F. Austin. The next home game for the Bearkat women will be a non-conference encounter with Texas Southern on Tuesday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
