Dess Meek wins high jump again in Houston

HOUSTON ? Dess Meek won the women's high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6' 0” to highlight action for the Sam Houston State women in the University of Houston Indoor Invitational Track and Field meet Friday and Saturday.
The mark was a school record. Meek, who won the NCAA Regional in the high jump outdoors last summer, could become the first Sam Houston State track and field athlete to earn a berth in NCAA indoor nationals.
"While a 6-0 leap doesn't guarantee Dess a spot at nationals, it will be a tough mark to beat," SHSU head coach Curtis Collier said. "It was just an outstanding performance for her."
Ambra McCuin won the women's “B” long jump with a leap of 18' 2.5”.
The Bearkats produced five third place finishes with Kristi Hermes in the pole vault (11-05.75), Tiana Lee in the 60 meter hurdles (8.71), Desiree Taylor in the 400 meter dash (57.23), Brittany Henson in the 400 meter dash “B” and the 4x400 meter relay (3:53.68)
