HUNTSVILLE, TX ? Shaye Montgomery scored 17 points and Myeisha Myles added 15 to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 67-62 Southland Conference women's basketball victory over Sam Houston State Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.

The Islanders jumped out to an 18-5 lead 10 minutes into the contest and never trailed the rest of the way. Up 29-26 at halftime, A&M-Corpus Christi led by 17 points with 7:12 on a jumper by Myles that made the score 58-41.

Sam Houston fought back to cut the margin to four points, 66-62 with 13 seconds left, by Montgomery hit a free throw with 11 seconds left to ice the victory.

TAMUCC upped its season record to 10-13 and stands 5-5 in Southland play. Sam Houston drops to 7-16 for the year and 4-6 in league action.

Brittany Brooks led Sam Houston with 19 points. Whitney Smith added 17 points and Leisa Ailshie also was in double figures with 12.
