Bearkats still getting votes in NCBWA poll

HUNTSVILLE ? After starting the opening weekend of the college baseball season with a four-game series sweep of Creighton, the Sam Houston State Bearkats are getting a little recognition for their strong start.
The Bearkats were one of the teams mentioned as receiving votes in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association top 30 poll. Lamar, which also started 4-0 is the only other Southland Conference team receiving votes.
The Bearkats will be in action Tuesday night against Prairie View A&M and this weekend will host a good group of teams with Nebraska, Missouri State and St. Mary's visiting Don Sanders Stadium for the three-day tournament.
The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week's poll has representation by 12 different conferences among the 302 baseball-playing schools in the 2009 NCAA Division I ranks. There have been 17 different leagues among the '09 polls to date.
