HUNTSVILLE -- Brittany Brooks scored a career high 27 points to lead Sam Houston State to an 81-71 Southland Conference women's basketball victory over McNeese State Wednesday night at Johnson Coliseum.
Bre Agnew added 14 points for the Bearkats and the Sam Houston women upped their season mark to 8-18 and their SLC record to 5-8. The victory keeps the Bearkat women alive in the race for one of the eight spots in the Southland Conference post-season tournament in Katy, TX, March 11-14.
McNeese State (12-14, SLC 4-9) was led by Kendra Wells who scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Shante Perry added 17 and Conceita Cutrer scored 13.
The game was tied three times. Sam Houston State's largest lead was 14 points on a jumper by Brooks with 1:39 to play as the Kats led 39-255. The Kats led led 41-35 at halftime.
McNeese State came back to tack a five point lead 46-41 with 16:13 to play, but Sam Houston bounced back, taking the lead to stay 50-48 on a layup by Lucy Livingston at 12:04 to play
