HUNTSVILLE -- Two RBI singles by shortstop Trent Grondin and third baseman Dan Meyer combined with three Bearkat errors allowed Northwestern State to score 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning and earn a 17-10 victory over Sam Houston State in the final contest of a three-game Southland Conference baseball series at Don Sanders Stadium Sunday.
Northwestern State (12-11, SLC 6-5) won two of the three games to take the series. Sam Houston State (15-10, SLC 6-6) held an 8-2 lead going into the fifth inning.
The Demons totaled 20 hits while the Bearkats produced 16. First baseman Justin O'Neal went 4-for-6 at the plate for Northwestern State. Tyler Knight, Ryan Mooney and Adam DeLaGarza each had three hits for Sam Houston.
Kyle Broughton (3-1) was the winning pitcher in relief. Will Skelton (1-1) was the loser.
Seth Hammock aded two hits. Braeden Riley, Nick Zaleski and Adam DeLaGarza each hit doubles.
Sam Houston State will face Dallas Baptist in a non-conference single game Tuesday in Dallas.
