HUNTSVILLE ? Right fielder Tyler Knight went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a home run to lead Sam Houston State to an 11-2 victory over the University of Houston in a non-conference baseball game at Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday night.
The Bearkats totaled 14 hits including a triple by Justin Keithley and doubles by Braeden Riley, Nick Zaleski, Seth Hammock and Mark Wyatt. Sam Houston up its season mark to 21-13 while the Cougars fell to 15-20.
Sophomore right hander Dallas Gallant (2-3) had his best start of the season, limiting the Cougars to three hits in six and a third innings. After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning. Gallant retired 15 of the next 18 Cougars he faced.
After going scoreless the first three innings, the Bearkats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wyatt had a two-run double and Zaleski brought in a run with a double to spark the scoring spree. Knight had a run-scoring single and Ryan Mooney brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to right.
Tyler Lundy scored two in the sixth inning with a hard single of the pitcher's glove that bounced into right field. Justin Keithley's RBI double put the Kats up 8-2.
A two-run double by William Kankel in the first inning gave Houston an early 2-0 lead.
Sam Houston State returns to Don Sanders Stadium Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. to host Texas Southern.
