HUNTSVILLE ? First baseman Nick Zaleski hit a two-run home run in the first inning and catcher Mark Wyatt added another two-run homer in the third to power Sam Houston State to a 9-8 non-conference baseball victory over No. 15 Baylor at Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday.
The victory extended Sam Houston's winning streak to eight games and lifts the Bearkats' season record to 26-13. Baylor fell to 25-13 for the year.
Shortstop Justin Keithley added an RBI double and second baseman Braeden Riley hit a run-scoring single in the second inning. Third baseman Ryan Mooney slapped a two-run double down the left field line in the fifth inning.
Sam Houston totaled 14 hits with Riley, Zaleski, Jon Reed, Tyler Knight, Wyatt and Mooney each produced two hits apiece.
For Baylor, right fielder Aaron Miller went 4-for-5, hitting two solo home runs, one in the second inning and another in the top of the eighth. First baseman Dan Evatt blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Shortstop Shaver Hanson added two runs in the ninth with a double.
Daniel Nottebert allowed only three hits and struck out two Bears as SHSU's starting pitcher, picking up his first victory of the season. Guillaume Duguay, Will Skelton, Sean Weatherford and Matt Shelton pitched in relief.
Willie Kempf (4-2) was the losing pitcher for the Bears.
Sam Houston State plays host to Houston Baptist in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Sanders Stadium Wednesday.
