
Beau Willis named Academic All-SLC

Sam Houston State's Beau Willis is one of five student-athletes who has been named to the 2009 Capital One Bank Academic All-Southland Conference men's golf honor squad.
The Weatherford, Texas, product is a finance major with a minor in banking and has the highest GPA of all Southland golfers at a 3.95. Willis, a two-time all-academic selection and Dean's list honoree, posted three top-10 finishes and ranks third on the Bearkats with a 75.10 stroke average.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
Other members of the 2009 Academic All-Southland Conference men's golf team are Cedric Scotto and Matthew Carvell of Southeastern Louisiana,Michael VandeVenter of Texas-Arlington and Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas.
