Ryan Mooney named Academic All-SLC

Ryan Mooney, sophomore third baseman for Sam Houston State, is one of 24 student-athletes named to the 2009 Academic All-Southland Conference team.
A business major, Mooney has produced a 3.35 overall grade point average during his two years as a Bearkat.
On the diamond this season, Mooney hit .305 with 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs. The sophomore played in 57 games, starting 52 times. He totaled 42 RBIs. He was a major factor in the Bearkats' third consecutive Southland Conference post-season tournament championship and started in both Sam Houston's NCAA Regional tournament games against Rice and Xavier.
The Academic All-Southland Conference team is voted upon by the league's head coaches, academic coordinators and sports information directors. To be nominated for the honor squad, a student-athlete must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and be a starter or front line reserve who has played at least half of the season. True freshmen and first year transfers are not eligible for selection to the squad.
