Spivey, Crnkovic named Academic All-SLC

Outfielder Kendra Spivey and pitcher Brandi Crnkovic, both senior members of the Sam Houston State softball team, have been named to the 2009 Academic All-Southland Conference softball team.
Spivey, a biology major with a 3.90 overall grade point average during her Bearkat career, hit .305 this season playing in 48 games. A starter in 40 contests, she also was an outstanding fielder going errorless in 37 chances this year.
Crnkovic, who has compiled a 3.25 overall grade point average in her four years at Sam Houston, ranks as the Bearkats' all-time career leader in strike outs. This season, she compiled a 2.39 earned run average with 12 victories in 172 innings pitched including 102 strike outs.
The Academic All-Southland Conference team is voted upon by the league's head coaches, academic coordinators and sports information directors. To be nominated for the honor squad, a student-athlete must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and be a starter or front line reserve who has played at least half of the season. True freshmen and first year transfers are not eligible for selection to the squad.
