Former SHSU footballers invited to Reliant pregame ceremony

The Kats and the Jacks rivalry goes "big time" this year as the game will be played in Reliant Stadium in Houston on Saturday October 23.
As veterans of past "Battles of the Piney Woods," football lettermen will form a human tunnel to welcome the 2010 Bearkat team on to the field for the 2 p.m. opening kickoff.

Each participant in the football lettermen's pregame victory tunnel must have purchased a ticket to the game. Participants will need to arrive at Reliant Stadium no later than 12:45 p.m.
Lettermen's tunnel members will meet in the south lobby of the stadium at 1:15 p.m. Participants are requested to have their ticket ready when they arrive at the south lobby where the ticket will be scanned.
At 1:15 participants will be escorted to a staging area located in Reliant Conference Room 1 & 2 where they will receive pregame field credentials. At 1:40 p.m., SHSU marketing representatives will escort the lettermen on to the field. After the 2010 squad runs through the tunnel, the lettermen's tunnel participants will be escorted back to ramps and elevators where they can access their seats in the stands to watch the game.
"This is a marvelous opportunity for Bearkat lettermen to show support for our new coach Willie Fritz and the 2010 Bearkats," SHSU Lettermen's Association president Murphy Yates said. "The drive to make the Sam Houston section at Reliant Stadium a sea of orange on October 23 gives our university a major focus as we strive to bring regional media attention to Bearkat athletics.
"All lettermen are urged to support your Bearkat football team with your attendance at Reliant Stadium. From the huge tailgate party in the parking lot at Reliant to the excitement of seeing Sam Houston football in an NFL venue, there's never been a Bearkat football game like this," Yates added. "If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, hurry. Tickets are going fast. More than 65,000 Sam Houston alumni call the Houston area home and less than 10,000 tickets to the game remain."
Ticket prices for the "Battle of the Piney Woods" at Reliant Stadium start at $15. Tickets may be purchased online at www.gobearkats.com/tickets through Sunday, October 17. Tickets also are on sale Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sam Houston athletic ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House at Bowers Stadium. The ticket office telephone is 936 294-1729.
Sam Houston fans also will be able to purchase "Battle of the Piney Woods" tickets at the main west side ticket booth at Bowers Stadium during the annual homecoming game Saturday October 16 against Southeastern Louisiana. The west side ticket office will remain open for 30 minutes following the end of the homecoming game for SHSU-SFA ticket sales.
