Women's golf third at ORU Shootout

Tulsa, Okla. - Led by Meghann Stevens, the Sam Houston women's golf team produced their third consecutive top three finish of the 2010 fall schedule Monday and Tuesday at the Oral Roberts Shootout.
The Bearkat women put together a 54-hole total of 304-308-312--924 to place third behind Tulsa and host ORU.
The tournament was played on the par 72, 6,212-yard course at Meadowbrook Country Club. Sam Houston finished as runners-up and third place in their first two events of the year at North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe.
The Bearkats placed ahead of three Southland Conference opponents. Lamar (947) was fifth, Stephen F. Austin (981) 13th and A&M-Corpus Christi (986) 14th.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane wrapped up the team title with a 307-295-306--908 showing. Oral Roberts was runner-up at 917. UTEP tied with Sam Houston for third with a 924 total, followed by Lamar 947, SMU 950, Northern Iowa 954, Arkansas State 962, Oklahoma City 968, Southern Illinois and McLennan 969, Missouri-Kansas City 971, SFA 981, A&M-Corpus christi 986, Southern Utah 987 and Texas-Pan American 1000.
Stevens placed ninth individually with a 74-82-74--230 total. Other Sam Houston scores and finishes were Meghan Musk 16th 77-76-79--232, Shelby Hardy 19th 74-81-79--234, Landa Stewart 24th 84-72-80--236 and Jessica Borth 29th 79-79-81--239.
The Bearkat women will play in their only home tournament on the 2010-11 schedule next Monday and Tuesday at Elkins Lake Golf Club in Huntsville.
