Bowling third at UMES Classic

Fourteen of the 20 teams in the event are nationally. Sam Houston posted a 10-3 record in the match including wins over No. 7 Delaware and No. 10 Sacred Heart Sunday.
Central Missouri handed the Kats a tough 4-3 loss in the semifinal matchup. Maryland Eastern Shore won the team title, the Hawks' first championship in the six years UMES has hosted the event. The Bearkats defeated Delaware State 4-2 and Sacred Heart 4-3.
The tournament completes the Bearkat bowlers' fall schedule. Sam Houston's season match record now stands at 28-13.
The Bearkats started the tournament Friday with victories over No. 19 Morgan State 864-687, No. 15 Saint Francis (New York) 747-694, No. 2 host UMES 752-748 and No. 9 Kutztown 813-767 before falling to No. 8 New Jersey City 764-735.
Saturday, the Kats bounced back from an opening loss to defending NCAA national champion Fairleigh Dickinson to post four wins. Three of the four victories in team total pins play were over nationally ranked opponents.
After falling to FDU 996-933, Sam Houston defeated No. 7 Delaware State 1,004-999, No. 10 Sacred Heart 1,044-901, No. 13 Adelphi 1,044-960 and unranked Monmouth 889-812 to run the Bearkats' overall record for the UMES event to 8-2.
"All in all this was another great tournament for us," head coach Brad Hagen said. "Our level of preparation, our competitive nature, our NCAA Record proves that we are just not another first year program. Our first half may be over but we are gearing up for the second half and to remain on course toward our goal. That goal is the NCAA championship in Detroit in April. We've got heads turned now and people attentions but we still have to go out and prove that we are a contender and just not a hot first half team fluke."
MacAllister posted the team's highest average in the tournament, totaling 1,071 pins in five matches for a 214.2 average. Galganski posted a 203.0 average in five matches.
Other pin totals for the Bearkats included Shaina Woolbaugh 199.0, Kimi Davidson 193.5, Aida Sanchez 179.8 and Neishka Cardona 157.5.
As a team the Bearkats totaled 16,031 pins for an NCAA team average of 191.16.
