
Bowling wins two more over nationally ranked foes

Following up Friday's big win over defending NCAA champion and preseason No. 1 ranked FDU, the Kats defeated No. 7 Delaware 1,011-880 and No. 15 Saint Francis of New York 985-915 in Saturday's qualifying team round.
Sam Houston also posted a victory over Monmouth 910-867. The Kats went 3-2 on the day, falling to No. 9 Kutztown 1,014-941 and No. 10 Sacred Heart 915-860.
The performance put Sam Houston in third place in the tournament standings. The field at the New Jersey Jamboree includes 18 teams, 10 of whom are nationally ranked.
"We made the best of the day and now were in a very good situation going in to Sunday's final day," Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. "Our overall play and determination this weekend has shown and has been well above par thus far. We're still in a great position to achieve our goals and to give a run at the championship."
Maryland Eastern Shore (8-2, 8,892 pins) stands in first place. Host FDU (9-1, 8,618 pins) stands second. Following behind third place Sam Houston (6-4, 8,343 pins) and Vanderbilt (6-4, 8,333 pins) and Kutztown (5-5, 8,292 pins).
Saturday's action starter as freshman Shaina Woolbaugh fired games of 252 & 200 right out of the gate. Kimi Davidson and Dayna Galganski then led the way respectively both with high 190 averages in route to assist with the Kats' 3-0 start against two ranked opponents .
"Later in the day we caught a few tough pairs and just weren't able to convert ," Hagan said. "However, the final tournament winner is dictated by total pins and we continue to stay in the mix."
Sam Houston will face off with No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt in the Sunday morning step ladder finals.
