Softball splits with North Dakota State

Catcher Ashley Isbell's RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Sam Houston a 2-1 non-conference softball victory over North Dakota State Wednesday at Bearkat Softball Stadium.

The Bison downed the Kats 7-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.

Sam Houston (10-15) opened the scoring in the third inning of the second game as shortstop Hailey Wiginton got on base on an error and scored on a triple by Amy Brown. North Dakota State (15-10) tied the game with a run in the 5th inning.

Calli Wood singled in the 10th to score the winning run on Isbell's double. Tomi Garrison was the winning pitcher for the Bearkats, spreading nine hits over the 10 innings and striking out seven.

Wiginton provided the only runs for the Kats in the first game with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. North Dakota State pitcher Whitney Johnson allowed the Kats only three hits as she struck out 11 batters.

The Bison scored in the top of the first, added another run in the fourth and scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth inning. Morgan Mikulin took the loss in the pitching circle.
