Box Score NATCHITOCHES, La. - Paced by senior designated player Morgan Mikulin, Sam Houston's bats exploded for 12 hits as the Bearkats run-ruled Northwestern State 11-2 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Demon Diamond.
The second game of the doubleheader was pushed back to Sunday due to rain. Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12 noon.
Mikulkin went 3-for-4 at the plate including a two-run home run in the first inning and a two-run double in the fourth. She ended the day with five RBIs.
Sophomore Tomi Garrison (4-2) was the winning pitcher, spreading seven Northwestern State hits over four innings. Garrison also helped the Bearkat cause at the plate with an RBI single in the second inning. Erin Burford also drove in a run in the second to put SHSU up 4-0.
Kim Damian made it 5-0 with a solo shot in the fourth. Mikulin's double made it 7-0 in the top of the fifth and the Kats added four more runs in the top of the fifth to set up the run-rule victory.
Burford and Damian also had multi-hit games with each player producing two hits. Burford had two RBIs and Hailey Wiginton and Amy Brown each brought in one run.
