Softball hosts No. 24 Baylor Bears Tuesday

The Sam Houston softball team goes up against a nationally ranked opponent for the fifth time this season when the Bearkats meet No. 24 Baylor Tuesday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bears enter Tuesday's games with an 18-7 record and a hard-hitting team that is batting .333 for the season. Seven Baylor starters are hitting above .300 including outfielders Nicole Wesley (.473) and Tiffany Wesley (.425).
Baylor has totaled 24 home runs, five triples and 30 doubles this season. Infielder Dani Leal leads the Bears with six homers.
Sam Houston State comes into the contest with an 11-17 record. Pitcher Tomi Garrison (.368), right fielder Erin Burford (.367) and shortstop Hailey Wiginton (.365) lead the Bearkats at the plate.
Senior first baseman Amy Brown leads the squad with 25 RBIs. Senior designated player/pitcher Morgan Mikulin also is threat at the plate with 17 hits and 12 RBIs this year. Mikulin is 7-12 and has totaled 68 strike outs in the pitching circle. Garrison owns a 4-2 record and 2.20 earned run average.
Following Sam Houston's doubleheader Tuesday, the Bearkats will travel to Houston for a doubleheader with Houston Baptist on Wednesday.
