Baseball hosts Houston Baptist Tuesday night

Bearkat baseball opens a busy week with a 6:30 p.m. non-conference clash with Houston Baptist Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
The contest is the first of five games the Bearkats will play in the next six days. Wednesday Sam Houston hosts Prairie View A&M in another 6:30 p.m. non-conference tilt. Then Friday through Sunday the Kats travel to San Antonio to take on UTSA in an important league series.
Tuesday is "25 cent Hot Dog Night" at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Bearkats enter the Houston Baptist game with a 6-13 season record. Sam Houston has won three of its last five games. The Kats split a doubleheader with Texas State Sunday in a pair of games in which SHSU totaled 18 runs, 27 hits and batted .365.
"I was pleased with the way the team bounced back from a couple of losses to close the Texas State series with a win," Sam Houston State head coach Mark Johnson said. "We've got to keep working to get comfortable with the game and comfortable with each other."
Two newcomers and two returning starters are leading the Bearkats at the plate. Juniors Mark Hudson and Chris Andreas are hitting .375 and .373, respectively. Hudson is a transfer from Alvin Junior College and Andreas came to Sam Houston from Angelina.
Junior infielders Ryan Mooney and Braeden Riley also are hitting the ball well with averages of .367 and .315, respectively. First baseman Taylor Davis, a transfer from LSU, is hitting .329.
Houston Baptist brings a 6-9 record into the contest. The Huskies have been on the road for most of the season, playing only one home game this year. Sophomore Robbie Buller leads the Huskies with a .356 batting average that includes five doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs.
