Mark Hudson named SLC Hitter of Week

Sam Houston State outfielder Mark Hudson has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Hudson led the Bearkats to five victories last week, including a three-game conference sweep at UTSA and non-conference games against Houston Baptist and Prairie View.
Last week, the junior from Victoria, Texas was 10-for-23 (.435) with four home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored.
In the second game of the UTSA series, Hudson belted two home runs in a 4-for-5 effort that produced four RBI. The Bearkats had not won a regular-season game against the Roadrunners since 2005. Sam Houston State, which has won six of its last eight games, is 11-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Hudson ranks second on the Bearkat squad and is in the top 10 in hitting in the Southland Conference with a .388 batting average this season. He has started in all 24 of the Kats' games this year. He leads Sam Houston with 24 RBIs and six home runs. He has also totaled seven doubles and a triple this year.
Sam Houston State returns to action Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium in a non-conference game with Dallas Baptist. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots bring a 14-10 record to Huntsville.
