Sam Houston head football coach Willie Fritz believes this year's affair, which will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Veterans Conference Center, will be the best auction yet.
"It's unbelievable what is up for bid this year," Fritz said looking over the collection of items donated for the 2010 auction. "It's going to be Sam Houston's biggest and best football auction ever."

LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey Collection

Two framed autographed jerseys by LaDainian Tomlinson, one from TCU and one from San Diego. In his senior season in 2000, Tomlinson led the NCAA for the second time with 2,158 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 354 yards receiving. He won the Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back, and was a finalist for the Heisman, but came in fourth. He completed his college career with 5,263 rushing yards, ranking sixth in NCAA Division I history. The school retired his jersey number (5) during halftime of a November 2005 game against UNLV. Tomlinson has been selected to five Pro Bowls and has been an All-Pro six times. During the 2006 NFL season, he set several records and received numerous honors and awards including the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award and Associated Press' Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Cut 'N Shoots own Roy Harris clashed with Floyd Patterson in a Heavyweight Title bout August 18, 1958 at Wrigley Field, Los Angeles California. Roy went 12 rounds vs the Heavy Weight Champ before the fight was stopped. This was the last Heavy Weight Title match to be held at Wrigley Stadium in Los Angeles. It was also found that Roy recorded a Country Music Song "Cut 'N Shoot, Texas" while in Los Angeles. We wonder where that record may be.

"Old School" Running Back Combo

You get an autographed Gayle Sayers Jersey and an autographed Jim Brown Photo. Sayers was a two-time All-American football player at the University of Kansas. During his Jayhawk career, he rushed for 2,675 yards and gained 3,917 all-purpose yards. In 1963, he set an NCAA Division I record with a 99-yard run against Nebraska. In his senior year, he led the Jayhawks to a 15-14 upset victory over Oklahoma with a 96-yard kickoff return. Sayers is considered by many to have been the greatest open field runner in college football history. Sayers is a member of both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. Jim Brown is best known for his exceptional and record-setting nine-year career as a running back for the NFL Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965. In 2002, he was named by The Sporting News as the greatest professional football player ever. He is considered to be one of the greatest professional athletes the U.S. has ever produced.

Earl Cambell Autographed Jersey

At the University of Texas, Earl Cambell won the Heisman Trophy in 1977 and led the nation in rushing with 1,744 yards. In 1977, he became the first recipient of the Davey O'Brien Memorial Trophy which was awarded to the most outstanding player in the now-defunct Southwest Conference. He was also a consensus All-America choice in 1977. Additionally, he was a First-team All-America selection by the AFCA in 1975. He was selected as the Southwest Conference running back of the year in each of his college seasons and finished with 4,444 career rushing yards. Campbell was the first draft pick overall in the 1978 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, and in that year he was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press as well as the Most Valuable Player. On July 27, 1991, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Doors will open and bidding on items in the silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and the live auction will follow at 7:30 p.m.
"These a just of a few of the exciting items up for bid. There's lot's more," Fritz said. "And the great thing is that, besides winning exciting stuff with your high bid, fans also will be helping the Bearkat football program will the proceeds going to the Sam Houston football enrichment fund for football scholarships."
Tickets for the event are $50 per person, $75 per couple and $300 for a table of eight. Tickets may be ordered by contacting the Sam Houston State athletic department at (936) 294-4205.
The annual football auction and dinner precedes the Sam Houston State Orange-White game which will kickoff at 9:30 a.m. Saturday April 24 at Bowers Stadium.
