Softball doubleheader with HBU Wednesday rained out

The Sam Houston State softball team was looking to get back on the winning track Wednesday as they hosted Houston Baptist in a doubleheader at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
But up 1-0 after three innings 45 minutes into the first game, rains hit Huntsville and the doubleheader was canceled.
The doubleheader will be rescheduled but an announcement about the new date will be made later this week.
Since shutting out No. 23 Baylor 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader March 23, Sam Houston has lost their last five games. The second loss in that streak was a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Houston Baptist.
Sam Houston stands 12-22 for the season. Tomi Garrison (.464), Hailey Wiginton (.346), Erin Burford (.313) and Amanda Lindsey (.290) led the Bearkats at the plate.
Other batting averages for Bearkat regulars include Amy Brown (.284), Mandy Gegan (.273), Morgan Mikulin (.265), Calli Wood (.229), Lauren Burns (.194) and Shelbi Tucker (.169).
Garrison also is one of SHSU's three pitchers, leading the team with a 2.72 earned run average and 4-4 record in the circle. Morgan Mikulin holds a 3.10 ERA and 8-15 record.
Sam Houston is tied for ninth place with Northwestern State in the 2010 Southland Conference race. Both are 4-11 in league action. SHSU will travel to A&M-Corpus Christi for the team's next Southland series Saturday and Sunday April 10-11.
Only the top six finishers in the final regular season conference standings will earn a spot in the Southland Conference post-season tournament to be played at Texas State in San Marcos May 13-15.
