Beau Willis named Academic All-Southland

Beau Willis of Sam Houston State University is one five student-athletes who have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Southland Conference men's golf team.
Willis is the first Sam Houston golfer named to three consecutive all-academic teams and is one of only five in conference history.
A native of Weatherford, Texas, Willis is a member of the President's List and Dean's List. A double major in finance and accounting, Willis has the highest GPA on the all-academic team (3.91) and finished the season with a 76.90 stroke average in 16 rounds. He was a member of the Sam Houston men's golf team that earned the runner-up trophy at this year's Southland Conference men's championships.
Southeastern Louisiana junior Cedric Scotto was named the Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year.
Joining Scotto and Willis on the all-academic team is Sam Houston State senior Beau Willis, Southeastern junior Rasmus Astrand, Stephen F. Austin junior Kyle Robbins and Lamar senior Hugues Joannes.
The Academic All-Southland Conference team is selected by vote of the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university.
Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad. Student-athletes earn automatic qualification onto the Southland Conference All-Academic Team if they maintain a GPA of 3.0 and were also named first-team All-Southland Conference and/or the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine All-Academic District VI At-Large team.
