Sam Houston State plays host to Texas A&M Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium in the final non-conference game of the 2010 baseball season.
The Aggies bring a 25-17-1 record into the contest after falling to Nebraska in Lincoln 1-0 Sunday. Texas A&M is 9-11-1 in Big 12 Conference action. A&M has won its last two non-conference games including a 7-1 victory over No. 23 Rice two weeks ago.
Sam Houston, with several of its starters out of the lineup due to injuries, has won only two of its last 12 games. The Bearkats stand 17-28 for the season and are 9-15 in Southland Conference play after getting swept by Stephen F. Austin this past weekend.
Bearkat head coach Mark Johnson will be facing his former team. Johnson, who on March 28 became the 15th active coach and the 44th coach all-time to win 1,000 games at the NCAA Division I level, coached for 21 years at Texas A&M.
Six Sam Houston starters are hitting above .300 with Chris Andreas leading the team with a .383 average followed by Mark Hudson .350, Braeden Riley .341, Ryan Mooney .322, Greg Olson .309 and Taylor Davis .301.
Andreas brings a 16-game hitting streak into Tuesday's nights tilt with the Aggies. Andreas has produced 20 multiple hit games and posted multiple RBI performances nine times.
Texas A&M is led at the plate by Brodie Green (.354), Caleb Shofner (.341) and Joe Patterson (.331).
Tuesday's Sam Houston vs. Texas A&M baseball game will be part of Sam Houston's "Orange and White Sobriety Day" being held to promote alcohol abuse awareness. The first 100 Orange and White Field Sobriety Day participants who attend the game will receive free ADAI t-shirts.
Representatives from UH Lake Road Apartments and the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association will also be on hand at Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday to take part in the festivities for what promises to be the largest home attendance for the season.
The Aggies visit to Don Sanders Stadium is the first in two years. Texas A&M won 8-2 over Sam Houston in College Station last year and took a 13-9 decision over the Kats in Huntsville in 2008.
Following the game with the Aggies, Sam Houston will head to Hammond, La., for a three-game series Friday through Sunday with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. The final home Southland series of the year will be with Central Arkansas Friday, May 14 through Sunday, May 16.
