24 Teams Begin Competition Monday

The tournament begins Monday. Teams will play two rounds the first day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. The final 18 holes for the 54-hole event will begin with a shot-gun start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The yardage on the par 71 course at Raven's Nest will be 6,943 for men and 6,067 for the women.
Teams entered in both the men's and the women's competition are Centenary, Houston-Victoria, Oklahoma City, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Pan American, Texas Southern, Tyler Junior College and host Sam Houston State.
Squads playing only in the men's event are McNeese State, Nicholls, Oklahoma Christian and Texas-Brownsville. Appearing only in the women's event are Concordia, Redlands, Saint Edward's and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Sam Houston is the defending champion in both the men's and women's divisions of the Harold Funston Invitational.
The Bearkat men won last year's 15-team tournament held at Raven Nest with a score of 278-289-279-846. Alex Ocha of Oklahoma Christian was the men's individual medalist with a 54-hole total of 73-72-63-209. His final eight-under round of 63 was a Sam Houston fall tournament single round record.
The SHSU women took the trophy in the nine-team event held at Elkins Lake last year with tally of 289-298-307-894. Sam Houston's Landa Stewart was the individual medalist with a total of 70-68-78-217.

There is no admission charge to watch the tournament. Tournament results will be posted following completion of play on www.gobearkats.com each day.
