
Bowlers head to Delaware

The Bearkats enter the event with a 21-7 season record that includes 16 victories over teams in the top 20.
Thirteen of the 20 teams in the UMES Hawk Classic are in the NCAA top 20 and eight of the top 10 teams in the rankings will be participating.
The tournament is being held at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware. The host University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks are the defending NCAA women's bowling champions and are the nation's No. 1 ranked team.
Other nationally ranked teams in the field include No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 4 Central Missouri, No. 7 Sam Houston, No. 8 Kutztown, No. 9 Sacred Heart, No. 10 New Jersey City, No. 11 Adelphia, No. 12 Delaware State, No. 15 Norfolk State, No. 16 Saint Francis (New York) and No. 18 Valparaiso.
The Bearkats placed third in each of their first two tournaments at the Greater Ozark Invitational and the New Jersey Jamboree.
In New Jersey, Sam Houston posted a victory over No. 1 Maryland Eastern Shore. The Kats also have victories over top 10 ranked Vanderbilt, Central Missouri, Kutztown and Sacred Heart.
Four Bearkat bowlers have averaged better than 190 pins per match in NCAA tradition team play this year including Elise Bolton (196.09 average), Neishka Cardona (195.71), Kimi Davidson (193.70) and Michelle Secours (191.67).
Competition in the UMES Hawk Classic begins Friday with five Baker total pins matches. On Saturday, the teams will play five traditional team games. Sunday the tournament championship will be decided with three Baker best of seven matches in bracket play finals.
Following the trip to Delaware, Sam Houston will complete its 2011 fall schedule by hosting the Kat Klash Bowling Intercollegiate tournament in Huntsville Friday December 2 through Sunday December 4.
