The Kats lost all five games at the New Mexico State Softball Invitational in Las Cruces to drop to 5-8 for the season.
Still, the young Sam Houston squad has been putting up some big numbers. As a team, the Kats are hitting .310, a marked increase from last year's .267 batting mean.
Sophomore outfielder Kim Damian leads the squad with a .463 average that includes three doubles and two home runs.
Freshman designated player Tayler Gray owns a .423 batting average with three homers and one double.
Freshman catcher Sarah Allison leads the squad with four home runs and 15 RBIs. Allison is hitting .405 for the year.
Senior shortstop Hailey Wiginton, who started her final season ranked No. 2 in Sam Houston all-time hitting, has produced a .386 batting average playing in all 13 games for the Bearkats this year.
Following the doubleheader Wednesday, the Bearkats head to Waco for the Baylor Bear Softball Classic Friday through Sunday.
