Natchitoches, La. - Sequeena Thomas scored 17 points and pulled down a career high 18 rebounds and three other Bearkats scored in double figures but it wasn't enough as Northwestern State rallied to hand the SHSU women's basketball team a 71-68 Southland Conference loss.
Jasmine Bradley led both teams with 27 points.
Sam Houston led by as many as 12 points, 47-35, in the second half. But Northwestern State whittled away at the Kats, finally going ahead to stay on a Trudy Armstead layup with 5:04 to play that made the score 59-58.
Chanice Smith scored 12 points for Sam Houston and Britni Martin and Khamra Echolls added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Bearkats.
