
Matt Johnson earns men's indoor MVP honors

The junior from Port Neches set a new Sam Houston record with a 5,563 points in the heptathlon to finish as runner-up in the event at the 2011 conference championships.
Matt won three heptathlon (the 60 meters, 60 meter hurdles and the shot put) and finished no lower than fifth in any of the other events.
Johnson was one of 14 athletes recognized as "Most Valuable" for the 2010-11 at the banquet.
The Most Valuable awards for 2010-11 by sport were Jenny Pence (soccer), Alyssa Dooley (women's cross country), Patrick Krol (men's cross country), Kaylee Hawkins and Carli Kolbe (volleyball), Tim Flanders (football), Morgan Davis (women's indoor track and field), Matt Johnson (men's indoor track and field), Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas (women's basketball), Gilberto Clavell (men's basketball), Dayna Galganski (bowling), Nadia Dubyanskaya (tennis) and Hailey Wiginton (softball).
