HBU foe in home opener Sunday

Sam Houston opened the season with a 3-0 loss at Baylor in Waco Friday while th e Huskies won in Houston over McNeese State, a Southland Conference member, 2-0.
The Kats and the Huskies opened the 2010 schedule a year ago in Houston in a game that Sam Houston State dominated but Houston Baptist won 1-0. Hedden lofted a long shot from 20 yards out that found the back of the net with only five seconds remaining in the game for HBU's winning tally.
"That's a loss you don't soon forget," Sam Houston head coach Tom Brown said. "There were some bright spots in the loss at Baylor Friday and some areas we need to improve. We're eager to see how the players respond to the challenge."
Houston Baptist scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half on shots by Natalie Hager and Molly Missimer to earn their victory Friday over the Cowgirls.
Sam Houston will be looking for more production from an offense led by two of the Southland's top goal scorers last year, preseason All-Southland Conference selections Kirby Zak and Tricia Mallory.
Three freshman - Hailey Shelpuk, Jessica Toms and Ashley Fluty - started for the Bearkats in Waco and two others saw action off the bench.
Admission to Sam Houston soccer matches at Pritchett Field is free.
