Texas Southern (2-6) led by 10 points, 22-12, with 4:30 to play in the first half, but Sam Houston (2-4) roared back to tie the game at intermission.

The contest was tied 14 times with five lead changes. Before the Tigers took control late in the game, there were nine lead changes.

Texas Southern found the mark in the second period, shooting 42.3 per cent in the final 20 minutes. TSU's inside game came on strong as the Tigers outscored the Bearkats in the paint 28-18 for the contest.

Sam Houston was hampered by 28.4 percent shooting from the floor (21-of-74). The Kats went 6-of-23 from three point range.

"We played hard. We couldn't buy a bucket," SHSU head coach Brenda Nichols said. "We have to do a better job of putting the ball in the basket."

The Tigers pulled away with a 7-0 run. The closest SHSU could come after that was 46-44.

Sam Houston State begins a six-game road swing Saturday at South Alabama.
