Kats fall 6-4 to Houston

With a 3-for-4 performance in Sam Houston's fourth game of the University of Houston softball invitational Sunday, Bearkat first baseman Kim Damian ended the first weekend of play totaling eight hits in 13 at bats.

The junior hit two home runs for the Kats as well, including one in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the University of Houston.

Damian's home run and a solo shot by freshman Hilary Adams gave Sam Houston a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Houston bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Sam Houston scored in the fifth inning at shortstop Shelbi Tucker singled, moved to second on a single by Damian and scored on a fielder's choice on a ground ball by Sarah Allyson.

Damian also figured in putting the Kats' final run on the board, scoring after a single after an RBI hit by Allison.

Allison went 2-for-4 in Sunday's game.

Sophomore Shelby Lancaster was the losing pitcher for the Bearkats, pitching all six innings for her first complete game of the year.

Sam Houston went 0-4 in the tournament. The Bearkats will travel to College Station to face Texas A&M Wednesday at 4 p.m.
