In what turned out to be a pitcher's duel, the Sam Houston State baseball team dropped its first road game of the season falling to Louisiana-Monroe 2-0 on Friday night.
Cody Dickson and Michael Oros combined to limit the War Hawks to just one hit, but each allowed one unearned run as the Bearkats committed three errors.
The Kats (3-2) managed just four hits and were not able to turn them in to any offense. Freshman Ryan O'Hearn continued his good start, going 2-for-3 at the plate and had a stolen base. Jesse Plumlee and John Hale had the other two hits for the Kats.
The Warhawks (5-1) scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh, both set up by errors on the Kats. ULM pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in the win. The Kats had just three runners reach second base during the game, leaving them stranded there. They left a total of five runners on base.
This is the first time the two former Southland Conference rivals have faced each other since the Kats took two of three in 2008. The win by ULM on Friday knotted up the all-time series at 32 wins apiece.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the series will conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
