Azar helped lead the Bearkats to a perfect 5-0 week that included non-conference wins over Dallas Baptist and Texas Southern before a three-game Southland sweep of UTSA.
The junior from The Woodlands, Texas was 13 for 22 (.591), had a slugging percentage of .909 and an on-base percentage of .600. He finished the week with five doubles, a triple and drove in 11 runs while scoring eight.
The sweep of the Roadrunners was Sam Houston's second consecutive sweep, marking only the fourth time in the school's 25 years in the Southland the Bearkats swept opponents in back-to-back weekends.
Sam Houston out-scored UTSA 40-9 in the series to extend their winning streak to eight games, the Bearkats' third longest win streak since they joined the Southland.
Azar will take an eight-game hitting streak into Tuesday's clash with Rice in Houston. The junior has totaled 14 multiple hit performances this season. He leads Sam Houston with a .438 batting average and is hitting .468 in Southland Conference action.
