The Kats take on UTSA at 11 a.m. Friday and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 12 noon Saturday in two contests that can not only assure the Bearkats of another post-season appearance but also help insure the team of a higher seed.
The SHSU women's tennis team stands 10-5 in dual match play overall this year and are tied for sixth place in the league standings with a 4-3 record. The top eight teams in the final regular season schedule earn spots in the Southland tournament to be held April 27-29 at San Antonio.
A&M-Corpus Christi stands 3-2, one match ahead of the Bearkats in fifth place while UTSA ranks a step below SHSU with a 2-4 league mark.
Stephen F. Austin (7-0) and Texas State (6-0) lead the 2012 Southland race. UT-Arlington (6-2) and Northwestern State (5-2) stand in third and fourth place.
Tatyana Postnikova (12-3), Nadia Dubyanskaya (10-5) and Natalie Petaia (10-5) lead Sam Houston in singles play this season.
Dudyanskaya and Postnikova (11-3), Sheridan Currie and Petaia (7-7) and Imke Jagau and Kayla Stevenson (5-3) make up the Bearkats' doubles pairings. Jagau also has teamed with Olvia Battye for a 3-3 record.
Sam Houston will close out the record season schedule next week with dual matches on April 14 and 15 at UT-Arlington and Texas State, respectively.
