Box Score A gallant effort by the Sam Houston State softball ended Sunday afternoon as the Bearkats feel 3-0 to No. 1 seed Texas State in the finals of the Southland Conference Tournament at Roadrunner Field.
The Bearkats, who started the season 1-13, then fought back to win 25 of their next 29 games, finish as runner-up in the league and earn the No. 2 post-season seed, made a tremendous comeback after losing their opening game to McNeese State.
Sam Houston defeated Central Arkansas, A&M-Corpus Christi and the Cowgirls all in one day Saturday, playing 26 innings during the day.
"The longer we went Saturday, the better we played," head coach Bob Brock said. "It was a tremendous effort. I'm so proud of what this team accomplished this year."
The Bobcats scored one run in the bottom of the first and two more on two fielding errors in the fourth to earn the championship trophy and advance to the NCAA Regionals next week.
Sam Houston put three players on the 2012 All-Tournament team as catched Ashley Isbell, designated player Kim Damian and pitcher Tomi Garrison were voted the honor.
