Five Seniors To Lead Kats in Southland Showdown

The Bearkats and the Bobcats will decide how the 2012 Southland title race ends as they meet at 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Texas State has clinched at least a tie for the title. However, victories in both games will pull the Kats into a tie in the final standings and a co-championship.
All five seniors are four-year letter-winners. The quintet will be honored in a special "Senior Day" ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
Calli Wood has been a starter in left field this season, but has seen duty both as an outfielder and a catcher during her career. Playing in her 155th and 156th games this weekend, she has totaled 85 hits in 346 at-bats. A kinesiology major with a 3.51 overall grade point average, she is a Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll member.
Tomi Garrison has totaled 94 appearances in the circle as a starting pitcher the last four years, Garrison ranks third all-time at Sam Houston in saves and 10th in victories. She was an All-Southland Conference selection in 2011 and is a first team Academic All-League performer with a 3.39 grade point average as a Psychology major.
Erin Burford, the Kats' starting right fielder this spring, has played six positions for the Bearkats during her career. She earned All-Southland Conference honors in 2010 and is making her 137th appearance as a Bearkat today. She has totaled 80 career hits, 50 RBIs and 27 extra base hits.
Brittany Gutierrez will make her 60th appearance as a Bearkat outfielder this weekend. She has played in 14 games this season, totaling 12 RBIs, three doubles and two home runs in her career. She is a Kinesiology major.
Courtney Schoenemann has been a valuable contributor to the team as an outfielder and a pitcher, serving as team captain as a senior. She is a Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll performer who has compiled a 3.48 overall grade point average. She is an officer for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a three-year SAAC team representative. Just this week, she has been announced as the recipient of the 2012 Dan Rather Summer Internship in New York
