Britni Martin scored 25 points to lead Sam Houston to a 65-46 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Bearkats' opening Southland Conference women's basketball game Friday afternoon at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The senior forward who has scored in double figures in all 13 of the SHSU women's games this year went 6-for-9 from the field including four three point baskets. She also was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. The 25 points equaled her season best of 25 a week ago at UTEP.
A&M - Corpus Christi Women's basketball team cut an early deficit to one with five minutes to play in the first half but the Islanders could come no closer.
Jessica Jammer paced the Islanders (1-11, 0-1 SLC) with 12 points.
The Bearkats jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Islanders scored their first basket.
Sam Houston State headed into halftime with a 35-23. In the second half, the Bearkats went on a 17-4 run with 10:20 to play to extend the lead to 58-33.
