Deveney Wells-Gibson led both teams with 15 kills to lead Sam Houston to a three-set victory over Houston Baptist Thursday night in Houston.
The victory brings the Bearkats one step closer to nailing down the number two seed in next week's Southland Conference post-season tournament in Corpus Christi. Sam Houston stands 17-9 for the year and 14-3 in league action.
Sam Houston wrapped in match up in a little more than an hour, winning 25-20 25-20 25-15. The Kats are tied for second place in the regular season standings with Northwestern State but hold the tiebreaker over the Demons thanks to a four-set victory in Natchitoches last month.
Carling Urben totaled eight kills for the Bearkats and Breanna Homer added six. Tayler Gray assisted on 36 of Sam Houston's 42 kills and totaled nine digs.
Sam Houston completes the regular season Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
