Alyssa Dooley Wins Southland Honor

Dooley, a Flower Mound, Texas (Marcus H.S.), native, shaved five seconds off of her season best to set a school record in the 800-meter run at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa hosted by Iowa State last week.
The senior took home the individual crown after breaking the 12-year old Bearkat record by clocking in a time of 2:12.67.
Her first place victory came over an impressive field that included runners from Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and three Southland Conference member teams.
Dooley followed up with an impressive top-15 finish in the mile run with a time of 4:55.44. She shattered her own school record by four seconds.
Dooley is the first Bearkat to win women's track athlete of the week this season.
The Bearkat senior earned All-Southland Conference honors during the fall with her second place finish at the league cross country championship. Her runner-up placing was the highest for an SHSU cross country women's athlete in more than a decade.
