Azar Named Southland Hitter of the Week

Sam Houston catcher Anthony Azar has been named as the Southland Conference baseball Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Azar returned from injury to bat .667 and drive in six runs in the series. The junior from The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands HS), carried the Kats to a win in the series finale with a 4-for-6 game with two doubles and a homer, driving in five.
He played all three games behind the plate, managing a pitching staff that struggled against Dallas Baptist.
The Bearkats lost 18-4 in the series opener Thursday despite Azar's four hits in the game. Friday Azar, who is hitting .327 on the year, had two more hits and drove in a run in the Kats 8-7 loss.
Next action for Sam Houston is a pair of midweek games against Baylor, Tuesday in Waco and Wednesday in Huntsville.
