Lamar Blasts Bearkats 19-8

The Bearkats suffered their worst defeat of the season as they were routed, 19-8, by Lamar in seven innings. This is the first run-rule loss of the season for the Kats.

Sam Houston (19-14, 7-3) was doomed by a seven run fourth inning in which all of the runs were scored with two outs. Starter Cody Dickson gave up 11 runs in just 3 2/3 innings.

The Kats trailed just 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth before the game got out of hand. Dickson got two quick outs before allowing a hit and two walks to load the bases. A wild pitch scored the first run of the inning. Dickson issued two more walks, hit a batter, and allowed two singles before he was lifted from the game.

Lamar would tack on three more runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to put the game away.

Catcher Anthony Azar and third baseman Kevin Miller each had two hits and two runs scored. First baseman Ryan O'Hearn hit a two-RBI triple in the seventh inning. Center fielder Colt Atwood was 0-for-4 but had three RBI.

Game two of the weekend series is Saturday at 2 p.m. in Beaumont.
