Dickson selected in 4th round by Pirates

Sam Houston State junior Cody Dickson was selected on Friday afternoon in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dickson, taken at No. 119 overall, is the highest drafted Bearkat baseball player since moving to the Division I level and earliest selection since Kevin Renz was selected in the second round in 1984 by the Chicago White Sox.
Dickson compiled a 17-11 record in three seasons with the Kats including a 9-5 mark in 2013. He struck out a team-high 91 batters this season, the fifth best single season in school history. This past season he posted a 4.26 ERA.
He closed the regular season strong, tossing 28 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest in school history at the Division I level and second longest ever.
For his career, Dickson make 50 appearances and struck out 188 batters which is 10th all time in school history. He finished with a career ERA of 3.94.
In 2013, Dickson had three complete games including a 1-hitter against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 22 where he recorded 11 strikeouts. His final game of the regular season was a four-hit complete game shutout against the Southland Tournament champions Central Arkansas.
This marks the eighth straight season a Bearkat has been drafted, and the 11th player over that stretch. He is the third Sam Houston player selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates joined by Dustin Craig (23rd round, 2004) and George Whileyman (7th round, 1971).
