SAN ANTONIO -- A 30th minute goal from Texas-San Antonio was enough to hand the Sam Houston women's soccer team a 1-0 loss. The Bearkats (1-1) will play South Dakota State in San Antonio Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Anissa Munson buried a rebound inside the box to give the Roadrunners the lead, which they held on to for the following 60 minutes.
"We played with no energy in the first half but had a lot more passion in the second half," Bearkat head coach Tom Brown said. "We thought we did enough to score a goal but we could not find the back of the net."
The Kats totaled 11 shots while UTSA was credited with 17. Bearkat goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton made five saves.
Ashley Alonzo and Megan Bennett led the team with three shots each. They were both able to only get one effort on target. UTSA 'keeper Bubba Makela was only called upon to make three saves.
Sam Houston will hope to bounce back against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, who beat Lamar 3-0 Friday afternoon. The stingy Jackrabbit defense only allowed four Lamar shots in the game, all in the first half.
