Dallas – Led by Deveney Wells-Gibson who totaled 18 kills, Sam Houston lost to SMU in three close sets in the final match of the Mustang Volleyball Classic Saturday.

Combining all three sets, there were 18 ties and six lead changes as SMU won 25-23 28-26 25-21.

Haley Neisler added eight kills for Sam Houston. Neisler was named to the All-Tournament team have totaling 31 kills in the Bearkats' three matches.

Tayler Gray ran the floor for the Kats, totaling 39 assists. Gray and Breana Homer each collected eight digs.

In the second set, Sam Houston held the lead four times and the set was tied 10 times before the Mustangs took the frame.

Friday, the Bearkats lost to Davidson in four sets and knocked off Grambling in three. Sam Houston stands 3-5 for the year while SMU upped its mark to 5-2.

The Bearkats will host the Sam Houston Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
