
SHSU women at Mid-Winter Invt. in Arkansas

The No. 10 ranked Sam Houston women's bowling team heads to Jonesboro, Ark., for this weekend for their first competition of the spring semester at the Mid-Winter Invitational.
No. 1 ranked Arkansas State is the tournament host at the Jonesboro Bowling Center.
The Red Wolves welcome seven other teams that include No. 3 Central Missouri, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Valparaiso and No. 19 McKendree.
Unranked teams in the event include Bethune Cookman, Elmhurst, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and Alabama-Birmingham.
“This weekend we'll have a great opportunity to get off to a strong start for the semester,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. “It's going to be a real test.”
Sam Houston brings a 44-21 dual match record into the Big Red Invitational. The Bearkats are 23-20 against top 20 rated teams in the December national poll. That total includes six victories over teams in the top 10.
During the fall, the Kats won the team championship at the Hornet Invitational in Montgomery and were the runner-up in their season opener at Tulane.
SHSU also finished fifth at the Nebraska Big Red Invitational and seventh at both the
Anna Groce leads Sam Houston in traditional team play total pins average this season with a 198.07 mark. Other Bearkat averages include Becca Pittser 192.83, Kimi Davidson 192.81, Nieskha Cardona 190.23, Erin Brown 183.52 and Kanine Kuwahara 176.71.
The tournament begins Friday with five quad baker matches. The Bearkats will play five traditional team matches on Saturday and end with three bracket baker best-of-seven matches.
