Kats second after one round at Miramont

BRYAN, Texas -- After a delayed start to the Miramont Invitational, the Sam Houston State men's golf team posted a solid first round and sits in second place going into Tuesday's final round. The 13 teams teed off five hours late at 1:00 p.m., shortening the event from 54 holes to 36.
With four players ranking in the event's top eight, Houston leads the field at 285 (-3), five strokes ahead of co-host Sam Houston State. Louisiana-Lafayette's Louis Kelly holds a one-stroke lead among individuals with a 69 (-3).
Senior Zach Cabra shot a first-round 71 and is tied for third in the medalist standings. The McKinney product was two over after the front-nine but fired four birdies on the back nine to finish one-under.
Fellow senior JT Taylor is just inside the top-10 in eighth place after firing a 72. Taylor's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole.
Sophomore Klein Klotz is tied for 12th after a 73 in the first round. Sophomore transfer Andrew Ertel shot a 74 and is tied for 19th. Logan Boatner's first-round 77 has him tied for 51st.
Freshman Jake McCrory and senior Dennis Reiner are both competing as individuals. McCrory is tied for 28th after shooting a 74 and Reiner is tied for 65th with a 79.
The final round is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday morning.
