
Bearkats remained unbeaten at Tulane

The No. 3 ranked Sam Houston women's bowling team remained unbeaten in their first tournament of the season Saturday with four victories in traditional team play at the All-State Sugar Bowl Classic at Kenner, La.
The Bearkats defeated Louisiana Tech 1,062-826, Alabama State 955-777, Florida A&M 1,033-844 and host Tulane 1,042-957. The SHSU women stand 9-0 in the Tulane event.
Janine Kuwahara led the Sam Houston women with a 208.0 pin average Saturday. Other Bearkat pin averages were Carrie Hopkinson (206.6), Anna Groce (200.8), Stephanie Zavala (198.8) and Heather Penatzer (190..4).
No. 9 ranked Stephen F. Austin leads the tournament in total pins with a 10,021 total pinfall. Sam Houston will be seeded second and play the Lumberjacks in the first round of best-of-seven bracket play Sunday. The Bearkats have a pinfall total of 9,956.
Vanderbilt (9,854) and Alabama-Birmingham (9,459) are the three and four seeds, respectively.
Friday, during quad Baker play, Sam Houston defeated Alabama State 1,053-958, Southern 1,016-774, Texas Southern 934-870, SFA 975-924 and Jackson State 972-852.
The Bearkats are defending NCAA Division I national champions.
