Summary

Biography

Carrie Hopkinson, a transfer from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, is officially in her second season as a Bearkat.

“Carrie has been a great addition to our roster,” Hagen said. “She has a lot of passion for our sport and brings a competitive spirit and strong work ethic to the table.  This is the season I am really looking for her to come out of her shell, stay healthy, and compete for a full time roll.”

Hopkinson had two years of NCAA Division I experience before arriving at SHSU including a MEAC finals appearance at FAMU.   This past season she added her first NCAA National Tournament postseason appearance with the Bearkats which has been a dream of hers from the beginning. Her past experiences go as far as national and international experience playing with Team Canada as a junior team member at PABCON Youth Championships in the Dominican Republic, World Youth Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, as last year as her first year with the Adult Team Canada at the Tournament of America’s in Orlando Florida.

Hopkinson brings a strong academic background to the Bearkats already well-built reputation. She will be majoring in agriculture science with an emphasis on horticulture at Sam Houston.  In 2015, Carrie earned NTCA All-Academic Honors with the Bearkats.

Carrie best finish of the season was at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University where she posted a 210.80 average which helped solidify the Bearkats 4th NCAA National Championship Tournament appearance in five seasons.  Carrie ended the season with a 200.90 traditional team average for 21 games which is the highest all time for a transfer with at least 20 games bowled.

Carrie officially marks the fifth individual to join the Bearkats over the last five years as either a youth or adult National Team member representing their respective country (USA, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Philippines & now Canada have all had Bearkat representation).
